Does it count as a “walk-off” if it came on a defensive play? I mean, I know that games almost always end on a “defensive play,” but I’m talking about when it’s an incredible play. It probably should be called a defensive walk-off, especially if it’s as awesome as this play in the Phillies-Reds game was last night.
With the score 4-3 and the Reds threatening to tie in the top of the 9th, Reds batter Jordan Pacheco lifted a fly ball to left field that looked deep enough to score Eugenio Suarez from third base, tagging up.
Nope:
That’s just a perfectly timed catch and throw, and a great job by the catcher of holding onto the ball. (In case you wondered, that wasn’t illegally blocking the plate by Cameron Rupp, because the throw took him into the lane.)
Game over. Phillies win. Walk it off-ish.
How about this? Those Phillies – those rebuilding Phillies – are now 22-15, just one game out in the NL East.
