The Triple-A affiliates of the St. Louis Cardinals go by the name of the Memphis Redbirds and they have a pickup truck parked out beyond the left field wall. Despite the rough and tumblin’ nature of the Redbirds and their fans down in Memphis, this pickup truck has yet to be used for anything besides lookin’ good.
Why? Well, this pickup truck is part of a Ford F-150 promotion, wherein a lucky fan can take it home if a player hits the target to its left with a baseball. The only problem is that the truck is located 360 feet from home plate, up a 7 f00t wall and finally atop a bluff that overlooks the field. The only solution, then, is to hit it really, really hard. And that’s just what the New Orleans Zephyrs outfielder Destin Hood did.

Hood cranks one so deep to left field that the announcers knew its final destination almost immediately: the truck.
So, a fan should go home with a brand new Ford, right? Unfortunately, no. There’s one pretty big caveat here: you have to hit the target, not the truck. Even though Hood crushed one far enough to leave the field, up the seven foot wall, on top of the grassy knoll and into the tailgate, the only reward that anyone received were some runs on the board.
That damn fine print. It’s always ruining everything.
