At the end of Wednesday’s Cubs win over the Reds, breakout rookie catcher Willson Contreras took a foul ball to a foul area. Given that he and his boys were ultimately fine, the ensuing dance down the third baseline is pretty much one of the best things I’ve seen in a while.
Check it out:
Apparently one of the Cubs coaches agrees.
Watching shortstop Addison Russell cover his face, while listening to the Cubs announcers attempt to describe what they’re seeing on the field in a diplomatic manner – without laughing themselves – just adds to the fun.
And if any of you ladies out there are confused by his antics, let me try to explain. When a fella gets hit in the groin, there’s not much going through his mind. The pain is quite present, of course, but all other motor skills, societal norms and – apparently – public dancing filters go out the window. That’s what is happening here.
For the guys watching, the video requires no further explanation, does it?
Fortunately for Contreras, he was ultimately fine, and will presumably continue his excellent rookie campaign with the Cubs unfettered.
