It is a celebrated – debated? – tradition in the Wrigley Field bleachers to throw back opponent home runs. Sure, it happens occasionally at other parks, too, these days, but tossing an unwanted homer back onto the field find its great support within The Friendly Confines.
So, last night, when a young Cubs fan nabbed a homer in left field off the bat off of Rockies catcher Nick Hundley, it only made sense that the sea of Cubs fans around him encouraged him to throw it back. Which he did.
Except that homer was at Coors Field:
With all these #Cubs fans, it's easy to forget we're not at Wrigley.https://t.co/3k2n8cO69a

Soon after throwing it back, though, the fan – and his dad – were escorted out by security, since you’re technically not allowed to throw stuff on the field:
Hero?
Hero. (vine by @Hecky1019) https://t.co/BrCRfr1pho

There’s a happy ending, though! The fan and his dad were shortly thereafter returned to their section, and the kid actually got a standing ovation so loud that you could hear it from the home plate audio.

And now Cubs fans have a new cult hero.
Incidentally, the fan was wearing a Kris Bryant shirsey, and earlier in the game, Bryant had hit the Cubs’ longest homer of the year. Presumably, the fan wouldn’t have thrown that one back.
