Is This the Most Embarrassing Way to Earn a Walk-Off Win?

Baseball Is Fun

Is scoring a walk-off run always impressive? Or can you mess up enough times where, even with a positive outcome, you probably deserve some crap for how you got there?

I’m not sure there’s a definitive answer to the question – and before today, I wasn’t sure there was ever going to be the right example for it either – but the following “walk-off,” is about as close as we’ll ever get.

Check it out:

After initially being caught too far away from second base, the runner breaks for third and immediately gets into a run down. Then, on TWO separate occasions, the defense corners both runners at second base, only to allow them to get away safely both times (which … just … how?).

Eventually, a high throw allows the original runner to slide safely into third … but the madness doesn’t end there. Upon realizing that no one is covering the plate, the runner breaks for home and has a clear line of shot. Of course, given that I’m pretty sure Mr. Bean is the guy running, he falls onto his face immediately, before getting back up and continuing towards the plate.

Finally, the last throw home comes in off the mark and our hero scores safely to win the game … well, that is after he falls just short of the bag one final time, and reaches out to tag the plate.

What a ridiculous end to the game, and what an embarrassing series of events. I love it.
