With one out in the top of the tenth inning of a tie ballgame, David Ortiz stepped up to the plate as Dustin Pedroia led off from first base. Now, Pedroia is far from being known as a slow runner, but at 33 years old, he’s even further removed from his former 20+ stolen base seasons … but I guess someone forgot to tell him that.
Because when David Ortiz cranked a line drive into the gap of right-center field, Pedroia hustled around second base, and started barreling for third. Instead of hitting the breaks there, however, he dialed things up a notch, and tried to make it home. Unfortunately, the ball beat him there easily. Fortunately, Dustin Pedroia’s been practicing his shimmy.

What Dustin Pedroia Giveth, Dustin Pedroia Taketh Away
Having arrived late to the party, Pedroia tried to make an entrance through the back door and – who knew – it was wide open. Pedroia does a little shimmy, the ball kicks loose, he scores, and the Red Sox went onto win 3-2.
We’ll file this one firmly in the “good luck,” cabinet.
