Okay, maybe there’s some crying in baseball.
Early in the matchup between the Mets and the Marlins, Jay Bruce pulled a line drive way foul and watched as it bounced into the stands, striking a young Mets’ fan in the arm. As you can imagine, that probably stung quite a bit, and Neil Walker took notice.
So he grabbed the ball from the young fan (well, he asked for it, stealing it from him would be like pouring salt in the wound) and walked around the dugout so his teammates could sign it. When all was said and done, the young padawan had more autographed gear than the gift shop.
I’d say it was worth it:
But in all seriousness, that’s an awesome gesture from the Mets – one they didn’t really have any obligation to do – and they may have just made a fan for life.
