Baseball parks are, collectively, no stranger to oddities within their confines. A lazy river in a minor league outfield. A golf course at PetCo Park. Hunter Pence.
When it comes to oddities in Marlins Park, I kinda thought they’d leave it at the center field sculpture:
But it turns out the Marlins came up with a way to nicely complement that structure in center: a race track all over the field:

Race of Champions is an international motorsports event “featuring some of the world’s best racing and rally drivers. It is the only competition in the world where stars from Formula One, World Rally Championship, IndyCar, NASCAR, sportscars and touring cars compete against each other, going head-to-head in identical cars.”
Cool by me. And it was cool by the Marlins, I’d imagine, as the two-day event this weekend drew nearly 30,000 fans – quite a bit more than the team’s average home attendance in 2016 (21,405).
