Umpire Very Enthusiastically Calls Out Batter … On Strike Two

It’s Spring Training for everyone, as they say.

And they did say it today, as home plate umpire John Libka enthusiastically rang up Astros outfield prospect Kyle Tucker on a nasty pitch from Marlins sidearmer Brad Ziegler.

Except, well, that was strike two:

I like Tucker’s polite demeanor there. “Um, sir … are you, uh, sure that was the third one?”

As the broadcasters note, the move was reminiscent of the famous umpiring scene from ‘The Naked Gun,’ when Lt. Frank Drebben – aka Enrico Pallazzo – gets really into his undercover role as the home plate umpire. It’s a classic scene if you haven’t seen it:
