If you thought Manny Ramirez’s contract demands for his team in Japan were unusual – optional practice, unlimited sushi, etc. – well, you were right. Those are crazy.
But so are the newly reported details from Rougned Odor’s extension with the Rangers.
On Thursday, the Rangers held a press conference to officially announce the six-year, $49.5 million extension for their young second baseman. And among the many details, we learned that his deal includes a $2 million signing bonus, a $13.5 million option for 2023 … and two horses.
Seriously.

Here’s Odor and GM John Daniels discussing the, eh hem, unusual contract demand. Notice Odor’s ear-to-ear smile. This dude loves himself some horses:

Apparently, the two horses are “quarter horses,” which are horses that excel at sprinting in short distances. Odor stole more bases last season than the previous two combined, so perhaps he’s looking for some further inspiration to up his base-swiping game.
And based on his comments from MLB.com, Odor was looking forward to the horses becoming part of the deal from the get-go. “I have a passion for horses,” Odor said. “I love horses. It’s one of my hobbies, being around the horses.”
