Ezequiel Carrera, a Blue Jays outfielder, has been something of a role player in the Major Leagues for going on six years now. Before coming to the Blue Jays, he spent time with the Indians and Tigers, having never played more than the 110 games he got into last season.
While he typically plays pretty solid defense in the outfield corners – and can add value on the base paths, as well – Carrera hasn’t ever been much of a hitter. His career slash line of .259/.315/.357 shows that he’s more than capable of putting the ball in play, but certainly leaves much to be desired in the power/slugging department.
In the six and a quarter seasons in the Major Leagues, for example, Carrera has hit just 13 home runs total. So you’ll forgive him for not remembering what it looks like when a ball leaves the park:
That’s Carrera racing around the bases, like a guy a kid after an ice cream truck. But hey, if you had a shot at just your 13th home run in six seasons, you might not stand around and wait for the umpires ruling. You’d sprint your a** home and make sure that run counts.

I mean, that effort is actually pretty darn endearing, right?
Best home run trot ever? We think so too. @budcanada https://t.co/t0jeMAYSbJ pic.twitter.com/p7z7jtyoYK

That home run helped continue Carrera’s twelve game hit streak (fourth longest active streak in the Majors), dating back to April 21. During that stretch (45 plate appearances), he’s hitting .333/.364/.452 (127 wRC+). And he’s earned every bit of it.
This guy is fun to watch.
