Yesterday, a large number of MLB teams were told that they were officially out of the running for the two-way Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani (better known as “The Japanese Babe Ruth”).
Among those teams was one of the presumed early-favorites, the New York Yankees:
The Yankees have been informed that they are OUT in the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes.

Soon after this report surfaced, Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman discussed the missed opportunity with MLB.com, and in the background was, well, a special guest (and perfect spectre for Cashman’s now-spoiled Christmas):
