The Washington Nationals officially became “The Washington Nationals” in 2005, and since then, they’ve made the postseason four times (2012, 2014, 2016, and 2017) – not too shabby, eh?
Unfortunately, despite the presence of Bryce Harper, Stephen Strasburg, Max Scherzer and the like, they’ve not once been able to make it out of the first round (NLDS) of the postseason.
It’s not quite as bad as the Cubs or Red Sox former curses (well … yet), but it is certainly notable and increasingly frustrating for Nats fans, I’m sure.
I’m also sure this montage of them choking in during the NLDS is frustrating for them, too! Luckily, I’m not a Nats fan. So I can just enjoy it … like a jerk.
It also doesn’t help that the three of the four series went all the way to Game 5, and that the Nationals have lost to four different teams (two from the NL Central and NL West respectively).
2012 NLDS: Lost in Game 5 to the Cardinals
2014 NLDS: Lost in Game 4 to the Giants
2016 NLDS: Lost in Game 5 to the Dodgers
2017 NLDS: Lost in Game 5 to the Cubs
In other words, it’s not like their pain is quick and/or the same team keeps booting them out – everybody’s contributing to their misery and they’re dragging it out as long as possible. Somehow, as a Cubs fan, I can’t garner any empathy. Suck’s to suck, Nats fans, better luck next year.
