This past weekend, a Minnesota high school pitcher named Ty Koehn struck out his long-time friend, Jack Kocon, to seal the former’s victory and advance his team to the state championship – a huge moment, in a huge game.
But before Koehn turned to celebrate the enormous, victorious moment with his teammates, he ran to the batters box to hug his friend and console him for the strikeout and heartbreaking loss.

After the game, Koehn explained that he’s know Kocon since they played on the same little league team and that their “friendship is more important than just the silly outcome of a game. I had to make sure he knew that before we celebrated.”
That’s just not something you see everyday, and we here at Baseball is Fun found it to be a particularly strong show of sportsmanship, which is always welcomed. Hopefully, other kids at the school and around the country can follow the example set by these two friends and continue to inject a little more love into the world’s greatest game.
