For the third year in a row, a regular season powerhouse has gone on to win the World Series (first, it was the 103-win Chicago Cubs in 2016, then it was the 101-win Houston Astros last season, and finally it was the 108-win Boston Red Sox this season). Digression: We sure could use an underdog or Wild Card win again one of these years.
But unlike the Cubs and Astros, who’ve won just one World Series a piece since 1909, the Red Sox have been there done that a lot over the past two decades. Remember, they won the final game back in 2004, 2007, 2013, and this season.
All of which is to say … maybe their fans are just a little too familiar with the trophy – or maybe they were just having too good of a time. Because during the World Series parade yesterday in Boston, a full beer can came flying into the celebration and smashed up the World Series (A.K.A. The “Commissioner’s”) trophy quite a bit:
Whoops. Here’s another look at it:
As you can see in this picture taken shortly after, the trophy was actually dented/bent quite a bit. So, I guess … the Boston crowd took the #DoDamage hashtag a little too seriously:

That’s certainly nothing that can’t be fixed, but boy, that Boston crowd was FEELING IT on Halloween, eh?
