If you’re not the most studious pitcher in your league and you don’t have the quickest fastball, nastiness curveball, or sharpest slider, you might just want to mess with your delivery to throw batters off balance or screw up their timing.
In the big leagues, most famously, you might’ve seen this from guys like Clayton Kerhsaw, Johnny Cueto, and Pedro Strop – though there is no shortage of unique delays, leg kicks, arm slots, submariners or anything in between.
But NEVER in my years of covering baseball have I ever seen a windup/delivery quite like this:
That’s video from the Taiwanese College Rubber Baseball Series, but it looks like something out of a cartoon. But as you can see, he lasted five innings allowing just 1 earned run with 12 strikeouts, so maybe he’s onto something!
Of course, he also walked 6 batters, so … maybe just stick the basics.
