I’ve actually seen “bat dogs” (sounds like a scary new species of dog … or bat?) at Minor League games before and honestly, the bit never gets old. I love those derpy furballs.
Every time a batter lays down the worlds best stick, a good trained dog gets to go do what so many dogs crave: their job. That may sound like a joke to the uninformed, but it’s really how it works. A lot of dogs were bred to do certain tasks over and over and most, as domesticated family pets (with otherwise great lives), never get to do them – that’s what fetch is for!
Finn The Bat Dog, however, has a job and it’s the best job in the world. He’s the bat dog or the Las Vegas Aviators – or, at least, he was until this mean old umpire basically fired him by doing his job for him.
But don’t worry, the crowd at the ballpark let the ump hear it and Finn still got to complete his task … like a pro:

That’s a good boy.
