Yankees 3B Gio Urshela Just Threw Out Mookie Betts … From His Back … In Foul Territory
You might not be familiar with Yankees infielder Giovanny Urshela, and that’s not particularly surprising. The 27-year-old infielder has never played more than 81 regular season games in a year (and that was all the way back in 2015) and hasn’t really stuck with a single club.
But considering the Yankees Injured List at the moment – Miguel Andujar, Dellin Betances, Greg Bird, Aaron Hicks, Gary Sanchez, Luis Severino, Giancarlo Stanton, Troy Tulowitzki, Didi Gregorious, and Jacoby Ellsbury – it’s kind of an all-hands-on-deck situation in New York.
Of course, it only takes one great play to get familiar with a guy, and Urshela just made that play tonight – against the Red Sox, no less.

Can you appreciate how absolutely insane that throw is?
Even if Mookie Betts wasn’t a good runner, which he is, that throw would’ve been insane. Urshela picks the ball up in foul territory, well-behind third base and then slips onto his back. Despite being basically parrallel to the ground, he fires an absolute rocket to first base that was amazingly accurate, too.
