I’m a big fan of softball. I think it’s an awesome sport and just different enough from baseball to offer a little something different for those who enjoy watching it … and especially for the many girls playing it competitively or otherwise.
My two teenage cousins have played softball – to the extreme (they’re constantly traveling around the country) – their entire lives and they’re both absolute killers on the diamond. It’s really awesome to watch. It looks so tough.
The purpose of that long-winded pre-amble, though, is to make clear that I don’t think – in any way whatsoever – softball is somehow a lesser sport than baseball. It’s not. But I also think it’s about time we start seeing more girls in the latter sport, because they’ll obviously kill it there, too.
Take seven-year-old Ashlynn, for example, who was apparently told “girls shouldn’t be playing baseball,” before she went out and put on an absolute CLINIC in catching baseballs.
Ashlynn, 7, was told that “girls shouldn’t be playing baseball.”

That’s how you make a statement.
You, ROCK. Ashlynn. You are an absolute all-star and I can’t wait to see more of you on the diamond – baseball, softball … cricket. Whatever YOU want.
