Thanks to COVID-19 (boooo!), baseball is currently on pause throughout the country. And the hiatus has impacted a lot more than just MLB’s regular season and teams.
Brett did a good job of exploring the breadth of that impact earlier today: “Sports” are not simply the action on the field, their upside tied only to the distraction and entertainment they provide to fans. They are substantial businesses that employ thousands and thousands of “regular folks,” and operate in an ecosystem where thousands and thousands of more “regular folks” have their real lives impacted.”
Among the tangentially (and substantially) impacted industries is a pretty obvious one: Minor League baseball/teams.
Already operating within precarious financial positions, Minor League baseball must remain nimble during these troubling times, to remain even moderately viable whenever life finally goes back to normal. Fortunately, at least one team has already gotten creative.

Yep! The Clinton LumberKings – the Class-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins – is offering ballpark menu items for pickup at NelsonCorp Field on Thursday, April 16th (which would have been their home opener).
Obviously, that’s not a long-term strategy to solve all their problems, but, hey, it’s a good publicity stunt, it should employ (and pay) plenty of workers for a day, and it also provides a good service for a bunch of stuck-at-home people, desperate for any sort of fun or excitement.
On what would have been the regularly scheduled home opener, the LumberKings will be cooking up some ballpark favorites, including classics like the Garbage Pail, burgers, brats and hot dogs and much more.
Fans can view the menu at lumberkings.com and can order (Order Form) over the phone by calling the LumberKings’ office at (563) 242-0727, payment must be made over the phone. Orders can also be emailed to [email protected] and the Lumberkings’ office will call to confirm the order. Payment must be made over the phone.

Orders will be delivered to your car door.
What an awesome idea.
