Having been through the (very successful) Joe Maddon Era with the Chicago Cubs, I’m not really one to take a huge crap on teams doing atypical, new-age-y things in service of eventual on-field success. So, while I do think what the New York Mets did was a bit odd … I also feel like, hey, whatever, if it got them pumped, God bless.
The Mets drilled 27 outs as if it were Game 7 of the World Series – no errors allowed – and if they got to number 27, they were to celebrate as though they really did win the World Series.
So they did, and they did:

Dominic Smith, who was in the celebration: “I believe in putting great things and positive things in the universe. I feel like it’s more likely to happen. … It’s just fun. It kind of gave me chills, especially looking back at the video. It’s pretty cool.”

Like I said – hey, if it worked for them or if it was fun for them, then go for it. No judgment zone.
