Francisco Lindor Suffers Unfortunate Injury, Mets Owner Makes Unfortunate Joke

Baseball Is Fun

Dad jokes can be bad enough if you don’t pull them off with just the right sense of cheeky yes-I’m-aware-this-is-stupid-and-that’s-part-of-the-joke. Half of getting it right is reading the room.

Tonight, New York Mets star shortstop Francisco Lindor is sitting out the game after injuring his finger when his hotel door closed on it. While the initial read is that it won’t cost him too long, he admitted that he can’t feel too well with it and it didn’t look good:

If you’re a Mets fan, that freaks you out a little bit! Even if everyone says it’s no big deal and he’ll be back soon, you can’t help but get nervous when a key player misses time with injury, especially one where you don’tΒ really have a great sense of just how bad it is.

In other words, NOT THE TIME FOR A DAD JOKE, STEVE COHEN:

That’s New York Mets owner Steve Cohen – Lindor’s boss’s boss’s boss or whatever – making a door joke about his injured finger. Yeesh. Maybe that means everyone knows it really will be no more than a single game missed.

Also, *if* you’re gonna joke in a situation like this, at least make it a good joke? Get a pull-my-finger in there somewhere or something.
