Everyone loves a good walk-off in baseball. The Phillies treated us to a fun one on Sunday afternoon when rookie Bryson Stott drilled a walk-off three-run home run into the right field seats at Citizen Bank Ballpark to lift Philadelphia over the Los Angeles Angels. That one would be considered your “typical” walk-off, though. You know, opposite of the kind of walk-off that the Double-A Biloxi Shuckers and Pensacola Blue Wahoos offered us on Sunday afternoon.
The Biloxi Shuckers (the Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers) led the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (the Double-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins) 6-4 in the bottom of the ninth inning, and that’s where things get wonky.
As Pensacola play-by-play announcer Erik Bremer said, “If you can find a stranger [walk-off win] in baseball, I would love to see it.”
The weirdest walk-off you'll ever see!

Troy Johnston led off the inning by reaching on a throwing error by Biloxi shortstop Cam Devaney. Then Griffin Conine (son of former Marlins fan-favorite Jeff Conine) walked to give the Blue Wahoos runners at first and second with no one out. The Shuckers still led by a pair, so no big deal, right?
Not so fast! Biloxi right-hander Harold Chirino went on to hit the next four batters to force across the tying (Conine) and winning run (Luis Aviles Jr.) to give Pensacola a walk-off victory. The walk-off victory was the fourth of the series against Biloxi as the Blue Wahoos took four-of-five in their series with the Shuckers in the most exciting fashion possible last week.
