Well this is just incredibly sweet, and a reminder of how wholesome the experience of baseball can be.
During the Angels-Royals game, Royals catcher M.J. Melendez throws a ball into the stands after warm up tosses in the outfield. A fan catches the ball, and reacts exactly like you’re supposed to: he is pumped up, he celebrates, and then he tosses the ball to a kid in his area.
Nothing overly special about that. Really nice moment, but it happens around the world in ballparks every game day.
It’s what happened after, when Angels first baseman Jared Walsh hit a home run into that very same section, that you wouldn’t see coming:
That same young fan, together with his dad, got the homer from Walsh. Immediately, the kid thinks, I should return the favor for that fan who shared his ball with me. And you could see how much it made the ADULT fan’s day!
I’m getting emotional! It’s that level of sweetness and kindness and goodness that is touching my heart right now. You love to see things like this and be reminded of how much positivity can be out there. And sometimes baseball helps us experience it.
