Grand slams? Fun. Inside-the-park homers? Fun. Players getting completely befuddled out there for our own amusement? Sorry, but it’s fun. Combine all three of those things? MEGA FUN.
So it was tonight between the Red Sox and Blue Jays, when Sox center fielder Jarren Duran could not for the life of him find a Raimel Tapia fly ball. Unfortunately for Duran, the ball was deeper than he thought, the bases were loaded, and Tapia is really fast:
That’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment right there for Tapia, who gets credit for the grand slam. And for me, I’m pretty sure it’s something I’ve never seen before. Certainly not quite like that!
Bonus fun to see Tapia realize in real-time that he was going to be able to go for an inside-the-parker as he approached second base. You know EXACTLY when he was like, oh yes, I’m going for this. He was right, and his teammates rightfully lost their minds.
Oh, and bonus BONUS fun to see Tapia’s reaction off the bat. With two outs in the inning and the bases loaded, he figures he’s just blown it. Takes a moment to be frustrated, and then starts the jog. He STILL made it all the way around the bases!
