Seattle Mariners outfielder Sam Haggerty just made an INCREDIBLE catch, flying into the net and the stands in left field against the Detroit Tigers.
Except the catch was overturned on review and became a harmless foul ball. Look at what Haggerty did, and you tell me it isn’t cruel to overturn this catch:
That’s some serious “completing the catch”-level BS. It’s also a 6-0 game in the 7th inning, and while that doesn’t DIRECTLY decide whether something is a catch or not, it makes me feel all the more perturbed that they couldn’t just let this one stand.
Even without it being a “catch,” that’s still an incredible play by Haggerty, and a bold one, too. We were JUST talking this week about how rarely you see players go flying into the newer and larger netting around the field. I’m not saying more guys should be doing it, because it still looks plenty dangerous, but you have to admit: the way Haggerty caught the ball and then kinda sprung back as the netting stretched and uncoiled was pretty cool:
