Josh Donaldson Broke Into a Home Run Trot … and Got Himself Thrown Out

Baseball Is Fun

The Guardians and Yankees are playing in a tight one tonight to open up their American League Division Series. Josh Donaldson thought he’d given the Yankees the lead with a blast to right in the 5th inning.

Full on trot around the bases. High five with the first base coach. Happy jog.

One problem? The ball didn’t actually leave the yard. So Donaldson got himself thrown out between first and second base:

I mean, I get it. You were thinking the ball hit the fans and bounced back in. But maybe be sure before you get into the usual trot? Or at least be quicker to get back to first base if there’s any question?
