JT Realmuto Just Got Kicked Out of a Spring Training Game for the Most Ridiculous Reason Ever

Baseball Is Fun

By the end of Spring Training, I suspect most players just want to get on with it already. So maybe, if you were ejected from a Grapefruit League game, you would have occasion to celebrate.

Hence the fist pump from Philadelphia Phillies catcher JT Realmuto upon being ejected for showing up the home plate umpire … by doing nothing at all?

Seems like a pretty obvious misunderstanding there to me, with Realmuto thinking he’d already gotten the ball, and the umpire thinking Realmuto was trying to do the ole “oooh, too slow!” move.

Here’s a longer look, where it’s clear that Realmuto was befuddled as to why he’d gotten the boot:

A pretty outrageous ejection there, all things considered, and I doubt Realmuto is going to be hearing from the league on this one, so to speak. At least he got to celebrate his early day off.
