With the forecast of a potentially crippling ice storm on the horizon, the NFL has moved back Sunday’s divisional round playoff game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers to 7:20 p.m. on Sunday.
The game was originally scheduled to kick off at 12:05 p.m. at Arrowhead Stadium. Sunday’s NFC divisional game between the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys will still be played at 3:40 p.m. at Cowboys Stadium.
Here is the NFL’s statement with regard to moving back Kansas City’s game against Pittsburgh:
“Due to public safety concerns in light of the forecasted storm this weekend in the Kansas City area, Sunday’s Steelers-Chiefs Divisional Playoff game on NBC has been moved to 8:20 p.m. ET.
Moving the game from the original 1:05 p.m. ET start time will provide local authorities more time to clear roads in the area as the weather is expected to improve throughout Sunday.
The decision to make this time change was made in consultation with state and local officials as well as the Chiefs and the Steelers.”
Kansas City (12-4) rallied to win the AFC West in the season’s final week to secure a first-round playoff bye, the AFC’s No. 2 seed and at least one guaranteed home game. Pittsburgh (11-5) won the AFC North and rode star running back Le’Veon Bell’s 167-yard, two touchdown game in a 30-12 win against the Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card round.
