Commensurate with their controversial move to Los Angeles, the Chargers unveiled a new logo designed to incorporate the lightning bolt theme and their new city. And, well, that’s what they did, in the most uninspired way possible:

As you might expect, the logo came in for ridicule from all corners. Typically in these situations, teams will just kind of let the criticism fly around, will tolerate the jokes, and will press on in the hopes that folks will just forget about it and move on.
To the Chargers’ credit, that’s not the approach they’re taking. Per PFT:
“The logo that was revealed on Thursday was meant to help launch our brand into the market and supplement — not replace — our official team marks,” Chargers president of business operations A.G. Spanos said in a statement provided to PFT. “Clearly, we miscalculated how the logo would be received, and we’ve taken it out of the rotation.”
Eventually, the Chargers will incorporate some kind of new “L.A.” logo, but they’ll likely solicit a little more input before putting it out there next time.
