The Bears’ needs in the secondary are sufficiently significant that I’m hoping they not only find a way to add in free agency, but also add impact in the draft.
Their reported top target on the free agency side, however, is going off the board to another team:
Bills free agent CB Stephon Gilmore expects to sign with New England barring any final snags, per sources.

Gilmore was looking for a deal at the top of the cornerback market, and, although he’s probably not going to get quite that much, if the money was close from the Patriots and Bears, it’s hard to blame him for signing on with the Super Bowl champs.
As for the Bears’ cornerback needs, they have also been connected to A.J. Bouye, but his market may be even more robust than Gilmore’s. The additions will have to come from somewhere if the Bears want to improve upon a group that was one of the worst in football last year.
UPDATE: Well, if the Bears really did want Gilmore, then this is not an encouraging sign:
Was just told Stephon Gilmore was a little bit disappointed the #Bears weren't "more serious" w/ offer. Just "let the chips fall" after that
