Lance Briggs played 12 years in the NFL, and is one of the best linebackers in Chicago Bears history. Sadly, playing an extensive career in the NFL has its risks.
Briggs is battling symptoms of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain disease caused by repeated trauma to the head that can be confirmed only after death. More commonly known as CTE, symptoms of the disease can include erratic behavior, term memory loss, impeded speech, decline in motor skills, and more.
Ebony’s Kathy Chaney reports that Briggs came together with Sqor.com to create an original production with the goal of educating others about the debilitating disease.

“CTE effects guys in a different way,” Briggs said in a clip from Sqor.com. “You start seeing it even in the practice of football. You get worried and I get concerned for myself. And even though I’ve never had any suicidal thoughts, or anything like that, for it to happen to some great men and great football players, I know I can’t separate myself from that crowd.”
Briggs says he is doing his part to keep his mind active, including his football analyst work on television, and going back to school to get his bachelor’s degree. And we wish him the best of health moving forward.
