Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen and the Chicago Bears seem like a perfect match for one another, don’t they?

The Bears have the third pick in April’s NFL Draft, and apparently have a head start on getting to know Allen, who says Chicago is the only team he has visited with so far. On top of that, Allen adds that head coach John Fox has made a positive impression on him. Though, this might be the first I’ve seen anyone call Fox a “really cool guy.”
There is an argument that Allen is a perfect fit for Chicago, a team with a defensive line could use a boost. Akiem Hicks had a breakout season in his first with the Bears, setting career highs in sacks (seven) and tackles (36) and nose tackle Eddie Goldman seemed primed for one of his own before a season ending injury took him out of action. Unfortunately for the Bears, Mitch Unrein was the defensive lineman who played the second most snaps in 2016 – and produced one of the lowest grades Pro Football Focus handed out among regular contributors at the position.
There was a time earlier in the offseason in which Allen was a consensus pick to go to the Bears by mock draft analysts. But recent buzz has hype building toward Chicago taking LSU safety Jamal Adams. We’ll ultimately see which direction GM Ryan Pace decides to go on draft day, but perhaps their visit with Allen gives us an idea moving forward.
