After reading Hue Jackson’s comments about getting rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer experience as part of the next step in his development, I wondered if the Chicago Bears would do something similar with Mitch Trubisky.
And it looks like they will.
Bears QB Mitch Trubisky took some reps with the first-string offense today. Meaningful development ahead of Sunday's Exhibition No. 3

Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune reports that the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft suited up with the Bears’ first-string offense today. This is a significant step for Trubisky, and the Bears for that matter. Trubisky has played well (perhaps even better than starter Mike Glennon) when he has taken the field, but he has worked solely with the bottom half of the roster against the bottom half of the Broncos and Cardinals’ rosters, respectively.
To be clear, there is no change on the quarterback depth chart.
Glennon is still the starter, but there is a twist. Normally, starters in the third preseason game will play the entire first half and start the second half with the first-team unit, as so to replicate the act of making halftime adjustments. That won’t be the case on Saturday, as head coach John Fox outlined the team’s plan to start Trubisky in the second half, where he will hopefully go up against the Titans’ starters.
Eventually, Trubisky was going to face some better competition while also working with projected starters and top backups. And it looks like that time is coming now.
