Injury Report: Wheaton and Timu Out; Kwiatkoski Upgraded To Questionable

Chicago Bears

Two players who started during Monday Night Football will be out of action when the Chicago Bears return to the gridiron on Sunday to face the Baltimore Ravens.

Inside linebacker John Timu and wide receiver Markus Wheaton have been ruled out for quarterback Mitch Trubisky’s first road start. Timu suffered a high-ankle sprain in Monday’s loss against the Minnesota Vikings, though the injury isn’t as bad as originally believed. Still, Timu is expected to be out for up to four weeks. Luckily, the Bears will see the return of Danny Trevathan, who missed the Week 5 loss while serving a one-game suspension.

Head Coach John Fox provided an update regarding the injury that will sideline one of the team’s starting receivers. In his Friday meeting with the media at Halas Hall, Fox revealed that Wheaton suffered a groin injury in Thursday’s practice which will keep him out of Sunday’s game. It’s the latest setback in an injury filled first season for Wheaton, who missed time in training camp because of an emergency appendectomy, then missed the first two games of the regular season due to a broken pinkie finger that came during the last day of open practice at training camp.

The Bears expected Wheaton to be a potential impact receiver who can stretch the field vertically when they signed him to a two-year deal in free agency. Instead, Wheaton is battling injuries for the second straight season.

Chicago did receive some positive news with linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski (pectoral) and center Hroniss Grasu (hand) being listed as questionable. Kwiatkoski started in Week 2 for an injured Jerrell Freeman, but left that game early with a pectoral injury. Grasu probably wouldn’t return to the starting lineup whenever he is medically cleared, but the Bears would surely appreciate some added depth along the offensive line.
