The Chicago Bears hadn’t been doing much on third down against the Baltimore Ravens defense until quarterback Mitch Trubisky used his athleticism to make a big play happen:

Facing a 3rd-and-7 after being set back with a 1st-and-20 situation, Trubisky dropped back, scrambled right, and unleashed a 27-yard jump-ball pass that was hauled in by tight end Dion Sims. It’s the second touchdown for a Bears tight end on Sunday, with the first going to Zach Miller on a throw from running back Tarik Cohen.
We’ve been waiting for Sims – who signed a three-year deal as a free agent in the offseason – to be a threat in the passing game. We’ve also been looking forward to Trubisky making that type of throw, which simply wasn’t going to happen with the statuesque Mike Glennon under center.
Sims is a big target and that might be the kind of throw Trubisky needs to make to get his big tight end involved. Maybe we’ll see more of that in the coming weeks.
