Eff.
The Bears managed to keep this one within a single score until the very end, and once again the defense deserves most of the credit there. They stifled the Saints on third down, they created turnovers, and they generally kept the offense in the game.
But, thanks to a couple big mistakes on the Saints’ opening drive, a missed field goal, and a few critical replays that didn’t go the Bears’ way (including an overturned touchdown on a beautiful throw by Mitch Trubisky and an incredible catch by Zach Miller despite a serious leg injury), the Saints led from end to end.
A promising-looking day overall for Trubisky (including several nice throws that didn’t register as completions) ended with an overthrown interception, and that was it for a Bears comeback attempt.
Good defense. Good rushing day for Jordan Howard. But a loss. And one that’ll probably come with some controversy, given the overturned Miller touchdown catch.
