Martellus Bennett Blasts Packers On Instagram After First Patriots Practice

Chicago Bears

Martellus Bennett is a lot of things, but shy isn’t one of them.

The mercurial tight end has lived through one of the oddest weeks of his professional football career in the lead-up to Sunday’s game between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers. Prior to the season, we pegged Sunday to be some sort of revenge game for Bennett because he was set to play at Soldier Field for the first time since the Bears traded him to the New England Patriots. It wasn’t meant to be as Green Bay ruled him out with an injury, then sent the tight end packing for failing to disclose an injury.

And this is where it gets good:

Using Instagram’s “stories” feature, Bennett explained his issues with Green Bay’s doctors – specifically Dr. Patrick McKenzie. Bennett claims to have had trust issues with McKenzie, who he said didn’t make him feel safe and pushed him to play – though he immediately back-tracked and wrote “Not that he was trying to get me to play thru it but the way he was saying things.”

Bennett claims to have sought the opinion of three doctors for a second opinion on the matter, who the tight end claims each said the issue needed to be fixed. He seems to believe this is what led to the Packers waiving him with what he called a “bull(expletive deleted) excuse.”

Green Bay waived Bennett on Wednesday, was claimed by New England on Thursday, and practiced with his new team on Friday.

As we noted in today’s Bullets, Zach Kruse connected some dots that suggested Bennett orchestrated his escape from Green Bay and return to New England. So it could simply come down to Bennett preferring to play with Tom Brady rather than Brett Hundley. If that’s the case, we really can’t blame him.
