Good News! Cameron Meredith Is Making Progress In ACL Rehab
Finally, there is some good news to share when it comes to a Chicago Bears player recovering from injury.
Wide receiver Cameron Meredith says he is making progress in rehabilitating the knee injury that ended his season before it could really get started. CBS Chicago’s Chris Emma has a rundown of Meredith’s appearance on WSCR 670-AM’s Bernstein and Goff Show, where he gave a health status update.
“It’s going great,” Meredith told the Bernstein and Goff Show. “I’m steadily making progress. You got to take it one day at a time.”
If you’ll recall, Meredith suffered a season-ending knee injury suffered in Week 3 of the preseason after making a catch on the team’s second offensive drive of the game. Emma reports Meredith was walking around Halas Hall without crutches or a boot for the first time in four months, which is a sure sign of progress for the talented wide receiver. Hopefully, it’s the first of many positive signs as Meredith makes his way back from a gruesome injury.
The timing couldn’t have been worse for Meredith, who was coming off a breakout season in 2016 (where he owned the NFL’s best double-move) and was set to enter this year as the clear-cut No. 1 option for the offense. Meredith caught 66 passes, gained 888 receiving yards, and hauled in four touchdown receptions in 2016. The Illinois State product who joined the Bears as an undrafted free agent made his mark when Kevin White went down with an injury and Alshon Jefferey missed time with a suspension.
From a team perspective, it looked like things were just starting to click for quarterback Mike Glennon and an offense that looked lethargic in the first two games of the preseason. Things haven’t looked good for the Bears offense for most of the year and the clearly miss having a No. 1 receiver. Chicago has used seven different starters at wide receiver this season.
It’s unfortunate Meredith’s breakout season didn’t get the follow-up it deserved because he suffered, but he seems determined to make a major comeback in 2018.
