Brian Urlacher Is Excited About the Bears Future … And Thinks John Fox Should Keep His Job

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears are in the midst of a five-game losing streak in their fourth consecutive losing season. The team has 11 players on injured reserve and will enter its Week 14 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals with a 3-9 record.

But that doesn’t seem to faze former linebacker (and first-ballot Hall of Fame candidate) Brian Urlacher, who jumped on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” program to declare that he is keeping faith in the Bears’ future.

“I’m excited about the direction they’re going,” Urlacher told the GMFB crew on Monday. “It’s exciting for me to watch. I haven’t been excited about them for a couple of years, but I’m excited now.”

Urlacher gave his stamp of approval to rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky, though was critical of the offensive coaching staff for not allowing him to do much and keeping him “locked up.” He also was complimentary of Trubisky’s skill set, but added that good, healthy receivers were necessary to further unlock his potential.

Another rookie caught Urlacher’s eye, calling running back Tarik Cohen “unbelievable” and adding “every week is something different from him.”

But while John Fox rides it out on the hot seat and many believe his time with the Bears should come to an end soon, Urlacher disagrees and gave the embattled head coach a vote of confidence.

“I just hope they keep Coach Fox long enough to turn this thing around so he can see the fruits of his labor with this defense,” Urlacher said.

For what it’s worth, Urlacher was on point when he discussed the mistake that was the Bears letting go of Lovie Smith. Chicago is 25-51 since Phil Emery dismissed Smith after the 2012 season, a year in which the team missed the playoffs despite winning 10 games.
