When Head Coach John Fox was asked about his job security back in November – when he was inching toward Abe Gibron’s infamous coaching record – he wasn’t concerned. Since then, he’s added just two more wins (against the Bengals and Browns) and four more losses … and, yet, he’s still not worried.
Fox addressed the media at Halas Hall on Tuesday, less than 48 hours after the Bears kept the Browns winless with a 20-3 Christmas Eve win at Soldier Field. And when he was asked if he had spoken with his bosses regarding his future, Fox didn’t give much of an answer.
“If I did, I probably wouldn’t talk about it here,” Fox said, via Bob LeGere of the Daily Herald. “In fact, (I’m) pretty positive I wouldn’t. But, really, those things are for the offseason. That’s always been my approach every season, and that part won’t change either.”
If you’re looking for answers from the top, note that GM Ryan Pace has kept a low profile during the season. Pace has appeared in only team-operated interview settings and hasn’t offered up much with regards to the future of Fox and the team in general. It appears as if answers from Pace will have to wait until after the regular season concludes.
The Bears are 14-33 since Fox took over for Marc Trestman in 2015, with double digit losses in each of his seasons. So while the Bears haven’t been a (as much of a) weekly embarrassment under Fox as they were under Trestman, a .298 winning percentage isn’t going to drum up much support for the 62-year-old head coach.
In any case, it’s safe to say Fox isn’t sitting on pins and needles awaiting his fate when the 2017 campaign wraps up.
John Fox on why he's not worried about his future this week: "I've never had trouble getting employment in this league."

Well, that’s certainly one way of looking at the situation.
At least Fox is at peace with what will happen when the season comes to an end on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.
