The Chicago Bears announced the hire of Brock Olivo as the team’s new Assistant Special Teams Coach. It’s a familiar position for Olivo, who served in that role for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2014 until 2016. While in Kansas City, Olivo worked under Special Teams Coordinator Dave Toub (who filled that role for the Bears from 2004-12) and with new Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy.
According to Broncos reporter Mike Klis of 9 News, the Cleveland Browns interviewed Olivo for their opening after Tabor left for Chicago. Cleveland was expected to hire Amos Jones to fill that role.
Olivo played 44 games with the Detroit Lions from 1998 until 2001, primarily as a special teams contributor. A running back by trade, Olivo picked up only two carries and hauled in just seven passes in his NFL career. He did return 15 kicks for 263 yards between 1999 and 2001. Olivo played his college ball at Missouri and left the school as its rushing yards and touchdowns leader.
Olivo was the Denver Broncos’ Special Teams Coordinator in 2017, but was not brought back for a second season as Vance Joseph’s staff is in the midst of an offseason overhaul.
