In a way, Brian Urlacher’s induction to the Pro Football Hall of Fame will help usher in a new era of Chicago Bears football.
The Matt Nagy regime will officially get under way on Thursday, August 2 when the Bears face the Ravens in the annual Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. Of course, Baltimore and their fans will be celebrating the Hall of Fame induction of their own star linebacker in Ray Lewis. This match made in football scheduling heaven will serve as an appetizer to the Hall of Fame Class of 2018’s enshrinement on Saturday, August 4.
The Bears’ inclusion in the Hall of Fame Game could prove to be beneficial in the big picture. It means training camp will start earlier and the team will get an extra preseason game. Yep, that’s right, five preseason games for Chicago this summer. But with a new head coach and offensive coordinator leading the charge, the new-look Bears could use as many practice reps as possible before getting underway.
Chicago hasn’t played in the Hall of Fame Game since 2005 when they beat the Dolphins 27-24 and we’re totally on board with the Bears following that script again. If you’ll recall, the Bears rebounded from a 5-11 record in 2004 to go 11-5 en route to a division championship in 2005. Here’s to history repeating itself in 2018.
