The on-again, off-again relationship between Jarvis Landry and the Miami Dolphins is back ON again. At least for one more year … and for quite the premium.
Unfortunately, it’s not great news for Chicago Bears fans hoping to upgrade at wide receiver in free agency:
We have placed the franchise tag on wide receiver Jarvis Landry.

The Dolphins announced they have placed the franchise tag on the talented, yet mercurial wide receiver. It’s going to cost them a little more than $16 million to do so, but it will be money well spent for a receiver who led the league in catches in 2017.
Landry receiving the franchise tag wasn’t always going to be a certainty.
There was a belief that the Dolphins were going to let Landry explore the free agent market, a move that would have made sense considering some of the not-so-pretty public sparring between the two sides as they tried (and ultimately failed) to come together on a long-term contract extension. Under the franchise tag, the two sides have until July 16 to come to an agreement. If they don’t, Landry will return to Miami under the one-year deal that will net him an estimated $16 million in guaranteed money.
With Landry off the market, Allen Robinson of the Jacksonville Jaguars steps into the spot of most-coveted free agent receiver. However, that could end at any time the Jaguars decide to use their franchise tag on him.
GM Ryan Pace’s biggest offseason challenge was to rebuild a lackluster receivers room. It’s a task that becomes a bit tougher with Landry joining Davante Adams as top targets who remained with their respective teams.
