Albert Wilson is one of the more intriguing wide receivers who is expected to hit the free agent market, but isn’t sure what the Kansas City Chiefs are going to do regarding his future.
“Kansas City knows what I can do,” Wilson said, via Sirius XM NFL. “We’ve built a good relationship over the years. Not sure if they want me back but I showed what I can do on the field.”
One person who knows exactly what Wilson can do is new Chicago Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy. Wilson saw an increase in usage and snaps when Nagy took over play-calling duties down the stretch for the Chiefs. Wilson caught 22 passes for 297 yards in those five games. If you want to dream on what his future could look like, you could dare to extrapolate those numbers over a 16-game season and we would be looking at 70 catches and 950 yards. Those are the kind of statistics Bears fans would welcome with open arms from a receiver.
That Wilson broke out with 10 catches and 147 yards while catching passes from rookie Patrick Mahomes in the season finale suggests he could connect quickly with Mitch Trubisky.
Wilson isn’t a big-bodied boundary target like Allen Robinson and isn’t hasn’t put up outstanding numbers in the slot like Jarvis Landry. So while he won’t get the kind of big-money deal Robinson or Landry will be searching for in the open market, Wilson appears to fit for a Bears offense in desperate need of receiver help.
