That the Chicago Bears are looking to add not one, but multiple wide receivers this offseason is a secret to nobody.
And although there are multiple options likely to be available in free agency (Allen Robinson, Sammy Watkins, Albert Wilson, etc.) and the draft (Calvin Ridley, Christian Kirk, Courtland Sutton, etc.), Dolphins receiver Jarvis Landry was among the more intriguing and available options via trade …
… Which is why it’s a bummer to see he’s no longer going to be an option:

Indeed, from the sounds of it, the Cleveland Browns are trading two draft picks to the Dolphins in exchange for Landry, which, if you ask me is a pretty high price to pay, given that the Dolphins more or less had to trade Landry by next week in order to get under the salary cap. Then again, the idea of defending Josh Gordon, David Njoku, and Landry might make the cost of doing business worthwhile.
That the Bears weren’t willing to part with so much is neither a shock nor a disappointment (at least, in my opinion), especially when you remember that they are already without a third-round pick this spring. The idea of trading picks for the right to pay Landry an exorbitant amount of money might have been too rich for Bears GM Ryan Pace.
Even still, the more options available at a position of need, the better (it helps make it more of a buyer’s market).
So now, Pace, Matt Nagy, and the gang will have to turn their attention back to free agency and the draft, where a number of other, perfectly acceptable receivers are just waiting to be gobbled up by the Bears – for a team that needs more draft picks and has plenty of money/cap space, that sounds just fine to me.
And Mitch, my man, don’t you worry. We’ll find someone for you to target next season. I’m almost sure of it.
