New additions to the passing offense and the hope for healthier days ahead for a pair of returning receivers has Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky pumped up to get things rolling again.
Vincent Goodwill of NBC Sports Chicago played catch-up with Trubisky, who was courtside at United Center for Saturday’s Bulls game against the Cavaliers. Excitement is one thing, and Trubisky certainly has that after a first-wave of free agent signings that included two new receivers and a pass-catching tight end. But the combination of excitement and confidence has us feeling hyped too.
“I feel like it’s my team going into this offseason,” Trubisky said. “I’m ready to take over, learn this new offense, really dive deep, master it, and make sure I have all the boys on the same page so we’re ready to roll come training camp and come this season.”
Trubisky has taken it upon himself to improve this offseason, showing the kind of leadership traits commonly found in really good NFL quarterbacks. He is living in California with Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff, who knows a thing or two about making major moves from Year 1 to Year 2. And if you follow Trubisky on Instagram, you’ll see how often he posts images or videos of him training out and working out with teammates. I mean, it’s not all fun in the sun and beach-side sunsets. But there’s some of that, too.
You can hear the eagerness in Trubisky’s voice when he talks to Goodwill about the new pieces in place in Chicago’s offense. You can’t blame him for having an extra pep in his step knowing he’ll be throwing to Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel, and Trey Burton. He knows those players are going to help his development and hopefully put up some more wins in 2018 and beyond.
But it’s not just the new guys who pique Trubisky’s interest.
“We got a lot of key pieces this offseason and I’m looking forward to getting our other guys healthy, Cam Meredith and Kevin White,” Trubisky said. “I’m very excited for Bears Nation and can’t wait to get to work this year.”
The feeling is mutual, Mitch.
