LOL, Wut? Mitch Trubisky Was Excluded from’s Top-32 Quarterback Rankings

Chicago Bears

March Madness often comes with its fair share of snubs in the form of teams with strong arguments to make the NCAA Tournament who are left on the outside looking in. But there is one snub that, frankly, is unfathomable and inexcusable.

Gregg Rosenthal of ranked the NFL’s 32 best quarterbacks regardless of team or situation, and while the top-10 is appropriately littered with familiar faces like Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Russell Wilson, and Matt Ryan, Mitch Trubisky is literally no where to be found.

To be clear, we never expected Mitch Trubisky to crack the top-10 (at least, not yet), but to not make the list at all?! That just feels all the way wrong.

Not only does Jimmy Garoppolo check in at No. 12 after just six games, he edges Pro Bowl quarterbacks such as Kirk Cousins, Alex Smith, and Jared Goff. Andrew Luck slides into the top-10 despite missing 26 of the last 48 games due to injuries. Ryan Tannehill and Teddy Bridgewater combined to throw two passes in 2017, but both still make Rosenthal’s list.

As do Josh McCown, Jacoby Brissett, Patrick Mahomes, and Deshaun Watson.

Trubisky wasn’t the only notable snub, as he is joined by Blake Bortles (who took his team to the AFC title game), Colin Kaepernick (who once took his team to the Super Bowl), and A.J. McCarron (um, his college team won a national title with him under center) as players who just missed the cut. How this group missed out while players whose injuries have made them question-marks for 2018 (and beyond) has befuddled yours truly.

There is only one way for Trubisky to make this a footnote in history, and that’s to play his way onto the list. Having a new group of pass catchers and a head coach whose offensive scheme plays to his quarterback’s strengths will only help matters.
