Rookie receiver Anthony Miller is a self-made man who brings All-American credentials to the gridiron whenever he steps on the field. But not only does Miller have reliable hands and a decorated college career, he also owns an unquestionable edge that makes him stand out above the rest.
Miller recently spoke with Chicago Bears play-by-play man Jeff Joniak, radio analyst Tom Thayer, and television analyst Jim Miller on Bears All-Access, and discussed his intense playing style (video at the end of the post).
“I just feel like that’s how football should be played. You can’t be soft in this game,” Miller explained. “And at this level, these guys got kids, they got families, they’re giving it 110 percent every play, so I feel like I just gotta play like that. That’s just the way the game should be played. And out of respect for the game, that’s just how I’m going to play every time.” Ahhhh, yes. Now, that is the good stuff.
Miler plays like he has chips on both of his shoulders, and for good reason. That type of motivation helped him change his life, transforming from a walk-on as a freshman at Memphis to walking out as an All-American with every important receiving record in school history. Miller says the edge is natural, something he always has had inside of him. It’s not something that just comes to everyone, so for the Bears to find a player with Miller’s skills and that kind of internal push is remarkable. This should serve him well as he tries to make his mark on the Bears offense at a position that is now loaded with able-bodied pass-catchers.
