Watch Brian Urlacher Open His Hall of Fame Package and Other Bullets

Happy Fourth! Between bites of barbecued goodness and moments staring at a fireworks-lit sky, take some time and reflect on what Independence Day means to you and others. And celebrate responsibly.

  • Boom! Here it is:
  • We’re a little less than a month away from Brian Urlacher entering the Pro Football Hall of Fame as part of an outstanding class. Bob Babich will present Urlacher, who will be joined by Ray Lewis, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Brian Dawkins, Bobby Beathard, and Jerry Kramer in being inducted on August 4. Getting the gold jacket he’ll wear in August cements how real this moment is for him, his family, friends, teammates, coaches, and fans who cheered him on over the years. It’s a well-deserved honor.
  • In case you’re curious, there are some available tickets for the August 4 enshrinement ceremony, as well as the Hall of Fame Game starring the Bears and Ravens that will take place on Thursday. I’ll be at the enshrinement ceremony on Saturday and can’t wait to take it all in.
  • Nothing like celebrating the Fourth of July by highlighting the most explosive players in Bears history, who have been chosen by Larry Mayer at the Bears’ official website.
  • Cody Williams of Fansided’s NFL Spin Zone offers up five reasons the Bears are sleepers in the NFC North. Of the five, I’m most intrigued about the idea of someone in the division taking an unexpected step back. The vibe is that the division is among the toughest in the NFL, but we haven’t really accounted for things not going well for the teams that project to finish ahead of the Bears in the division. What if the turnover bug bites Kirk Cousins? What if Matt Patricia’s coaching style isn’t the answer to the Lions’ woes? What if the Packers miss Jordy Nelson more than expected? Every team in the league has “what ifs?” and (of course) the Bears are one of them. Though, I suppose I understand how and why we overlook the hurdles other teams might have to clear.
  • To be clear, the top reason the Bears should be considered sleepers on the rise is because of quarterback Mitch Trubisky. The Bears will go as far as he takes them, and there is a belief that he will be up to the task:
  • Anthony Zilis of the News-Gazette (Champaign, Ill.) reports that the Bears will honor Jason Seaman for his heroic efforts back in May. If you’ll recall, Seaman was shot while taking down an armed student during a school shooting in Indiana where he is a seventh-grade teacher. Seaman played college football at Southern Illinois University, was recently honored by the St. Louis Cardinals for his heroics, and has already been booked to be the grand marshal at SIU’s homecoming parade. It will be nice to see the Bears among those giving a hero some much-deserved love.
  • Enjoy the rest of your day:
